Sometimes a simple
change in the operation of a woodburning system will not be
enough to make it safe.
The age of the home may have
made the chimney out of date and noncompliant with the most basic
of modern codes. To use such a system, uncorrected, will result
in possible damage to the home, and loss of life. The same would
be true of a system damaged by past chimney fires, lightning
strikes, earthquakes, foundation settling, or improper
construction. A home does not necessarily have to be old to have
problems in the chimney system. By the same token, a system that
was safe two years ago may not necessarily be safe today.
The
best possible system is a UL approved woodstove that has been
installed properly with an approved stainless steel liner.
